Disclaimer: Girls, however, you acquire your Birkin bags, I am not judging. I am applauding you for going out there and being proactive because they are a costly bag. Do what you gotta do.
2013 was probably an interesting year musically. Miley and her lickity split tongue accomplished what she set out to do, which was have everyone enamoured with her new choice of dance. Twerking otherwise known as Bounce.
I was supposed to end 2013 with a bang. I’m going to Los Angeles instead of the Middle East to hear one of my favorite Boston DJ’s, Nate Bluhm. 5 DJs. 3 Rooms. It would have been glorious but all the for the better because I didn’t like my outfit.
However, I want to share some of my favorite songs from 2013(the songs aren’t all from 2013, just songs that I may have discovered for the first time in 2013)
Kaytranada–Holy Hole Inna Donut
M.I.A.–Bring The Noize
Future–Honestly, any of his music is good because that autotuned voice just resonates in your mind
Big Freedia–Twerk Bounce Genre. It’s all good….but my favorite song is “Nasty” with Spank Rock
Salvia & Brenmar–Let Me Bang
Sage The Gemini–Gas Pedal(Justin Bieber Remix) and Panoramic
Iggy Azaela–Anything by her honestly is good
I have a lot more songs, but these are songs or artist that stood out in terms of creating a perfect dance environment.
Disclaimer: I do not hate Beyonce. However, I go through phases where I find her absolutely intriguing and I can’t get enough. Then there are phases where I’m in utter disgust by the sound of her. It’s neutral at the moment.
Beyonce this. Beyonce that. Love Beyonce. Hate Beyonce. Fake Bitch. Beautiful Soul. There’s something about her that draws us to her. There’s something about her that makes us hate her with an extreme passion.
December 13, Beyonce decided to give us a musical masterpiece. Simply titled “Beyonce” which I haven’t listened to entirely yet. I have my reasons. One of the reasons, there’s nothing that will act as my dance anthem of the winter. Usually she has a song such as “Diva”, “Run The World”, “Crazy In Love”, you get the idea. Her record label decided not to allow her any spending money for promoting this album, so I’ll give her props that it’s getting some recognition for this album. Special guest appearances from Frank Ocean, Drake and Blue Ivy.
She can do no wrong. She’ll snatch your wig and have you saying “Thank You” but what if people really hated Beyonce.
Reasons To Hate Beyonce Giselle Knowles Carter:
Even when she happens to be dressed down, she’s still rocking a light full face and some weave. Would she still be considered flawless without the makeup?
Although her version of the Miley haircut was absolutely ridiculous. GIRL, don’t ever take the lace off!
Destiny’s Child disbanded because of her. We should have known from jump that it was Beyonce and The Homies. Beyonce had a group and a solo career at the same time. Coincidence much?
Sellout? I could understand this one. With earlier albums actually having great(subjective) content that one could associate with, she’s kind of gone down in terms of quality. “You a bad girl and your friends bad too. You got the swag sauce you drippin swagu” Thanks J.Cole
Similar to Diana Ross, Beyonce had the look. She had the sound. She had the appeal. While there are other artist with stronger voices, quality material, how do they fit into the equation of making record companies money compared to Bey. However, I think she’s a great entertainter.
I’m not gonna rag on her love. When it gets down to it, it’s probably tough. She’s high-profile. She needs someone on her level. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Secretly we hate her. Secretly we love her. Secretly we wish we could be her. I’m sure there are many other reasons that people “hate” on her. These are the ones that I’ve heard time and time again. Like I said though, she’s an amazing entertainer. She keeps you intrigued. She got another 10 years before she’s irrelevant. Or…..
There is one song I can’t get enough of “Drunk In Love” featuring Jay-Z. Obsessed!
As you may remember, there is this shoe called “The Rabbit” by CA by Cinzia Araia that I am beyond obsessed with. The sneaker has these long suede or leather bands that allow the individual wearing the shoe to create a variety of looks to really showcase their own style and not that of just the shoe. They retail anywhere from $300-$400, more or less depending on when and where you buy them. I HAVE BEEN OBSESSED FOR QUITE SOMETIME, since I first heard of the shoes last year!
So one day back in February or maybe it was early March, I decided that I NEEDED THESE SHOES! I was going through a depressive moment and shopping a lot and shoes were what I needed to make it through the day. I ended up with an impressive pair of Jeffrey Campbell‘s that I can hardly walk in but that’s ok….they were a steal at $50!!!!
Barney’s in Boston is the place to go to for hard to find desginers, emerging designers and just really interesting pieces that aren’t of the mainstream. Think outside the box a bit! I walked into the shoe department and knew exactly what it was I looking for. I was looking for shoe in either black or white. I didn’t see it right away, it’s tucked against the left wall towards the back and there it was CA by CINZIA ARAIA! STARING ME IN THE FACE IN ALL OF THE GLORY THAT I HAD DREAMED ABOUT for such a long time.
A sales associate came out, she had dreads and was really cool like in a Brooklyn sort of way. She wasn’t from Boston, either NYC or she was from the south but like Virginia south. She grabbed me the biggest size in the cranberry color, not the color I wanted but fine none the less. I proceeded to try the shoe on……”AAAAAAAAH” My heart sank………
The shoe was too tight!!!!! No i screamed in my head. This can’t be! Why me? The shoe that I was basing my life around at that very particular moment didn’t fit me. I was devastated. My life had lost all meaning. “Well the shoes run very narrow. The way that it’s constructed, it will give a bit but not a lot. It’s an expensive sneaker to just wear once or twice and not be the right fit for you” In my head I immediately thought, “SHUT UP! LET ME BUY THE SHOE! IT’S MY MONEY TO DO WHAT I WANT”
Not being able to justify the buy, I placed the shoes back in the box. Tears almost trickled down my face as I walked upstairs to maybe see if the men’s department had the full mens line. They didn’t. I walked out, probably the saddest I have ever been in my entire life. Life didn’t have any meaning at this point. Then I realized…..it’s just a fucking shoe. Get the fuck over it…….and then I remembered that I got the most amazing pair of Jeffrey Campbell’s for a steal!
Despite being a buzz-track, “Bow Down” and “I Been On” has completely captured my heart. If changing her last name to Carter was Beyoncè’s way of saying I have a new sound, I think there are going to some happy fans out there. Hit-Boy and Timbaland produced the two tracks as a fusion hybrid style. Definitely flowing on the H-Town Swagger! Beyoncè is back and she’s keeping her reign as the Queen!
If the rumors are true and from what I’ve heard….I’m also excited for the possible collaboration of Lady Gaga & Bey on the track “Ratchet”. Speculated to appear on the track as well is Rihanna and newcomer to the scene Azealia Banks. They’re version of Ratchet is the around the way girl who owns bamboo earrings at least two pairs!
I’m glad that Queen Bey is back and she’s snatching wigs…………I’ll always be a stan for Bey………
I shouldn’t have had that coffee earlier in the day. It as a trenta iced coffee with a shot of espresso and now I’m paying for it dearly. I can’t sleep and now I’m thinking and that’s not good. When I start thinking, I rant and rant and rant…….Get the picture?
I’m not necessarily ranting in this case, I just can’t believe that I’m stupid enough to continue to fall for these games. I don’t understand why I don’t realize that deep down that I am good enough that I can be loved by YOU or ANYONE for that matter. When I’m not being a bitch, I’m actually really a great person. I feel as though I keep getting strung along and I am just fed up with it. What about the needs that I have? Why am I on the back burner?
Oh because I’m stupid enough to believe that such and such is happening. Well, you know what such and such hasn’t happened. I’m ready to move on. For so long, despite work schedules, any chance to bask in your presence, I run and jump to it. I really do. The fact that you don’t realize that and want me to go above and beyond…..What if I don’t get the answer that I’m looking for? I don’t want to get hurt nor waste my time anymore. I can’t, it’s emotionally wrecking me I feel like. It’s not fair! It really isn’t!
Why do gay men play games? Men play games in general but gay men are notorious for this shit!!! I tell you what I want, you tell me what you want but then don’t actually follow-up on the actions at all. It just seems like bullshit. I don’t. I can’t. It hurts. Do you care?
Some days I wanna tell you to FUCK OFF. Some days I want to tell you I LOVE YOU! Then I realize that I’m just a “Sideline Ho“, “Jump Off”, “Home Wrecker” Everything I didn’t want to have to deal with in my life at this point. I know what my decision is, do you know yours?
It’s 2013 and it’s time to start looking towards the future in a good way. You can have me? You can lose me? You know that in a heartbeat for the right answer, you can have it all. You know in heartbeat for the wrong answer, you’ll lose it all. Tough decision but honey I know the answer that I want to have.
Welcome to a new year, it’s 2013. We’ve survived everything from a Mayan Apocalypse disaster to the end and beginning of a new year. New Year‘s Eve is always one of the most overrated nights. Like I stated in a earlier blog, some of my best nights for NYE were with friends in middle school just walking around and be goofy enjoying each others company. That’s what it is all about. The focus always seems that going out is the right thing to do being decadent, waiting for the year to end and the year to begin.
Yesterday, I had to work which I was actually fine with. The day went really smooth and ended up hanging out with a coworker after work for a few hours afterwards. I actually enjoyed just unwinding and chit chatting. Then it was off to my friend Catherine’s to help her and Christina get ready for the NYE festivities. I honestly had intentions of staying at home for the night, especially since I didn’t last year. I even purposely didn’t bring a change of clothes either, so I wouldn’t be tempted. Go ahead and say “What a loser?”
Well, when I got there I was somehow persuaded by seeing how fabulous they looked from the lashes and the hair that I decided to suck it up and go out. Turns out I was glad I did. We went to a house party in Brighton, the crowd was varied. The one thing that I noticed about nights like this is that most girls try way to hard to out do each other. Thankfully, Catherine and Christina didn’t try at all. They looked great! So off we went into the night.
The first party, we stayed at until about 12:30, we played some Beirut, we played some tunes and danced like our lives we’re dependent on it. I always enjoy being the token homosexual in certain cases. Straight guys cannot handle it! It’s amazing. So we left the party and went outside. We were going to go get something to eat but we saw these awesome hair hipster boys. We were the life of that party as well! Amazing…
However the best part of the night was the end, when we got in a cab back to Catherine’s place from an awesome driver named Singh. He was from the Goa region of India, or maybe that was my client from earlier in the day. Actually, no he was from Kashmir!!! Then it was time to veg out, which is what we did on Comella’sItalian food. So delish!
So all in all I will say that this NYE was a lot of fun. Unexpected and fun which is what I like for such an overrated holiday. Love, health and prosperity are my hopes for everyone in 2013, the world is a troubling place.
Let’s Make The Most Of Our Night Like We’re Gonna Die Young
Christmas was good this year. Didn’t get to actually do the semi-surprise getaway that I had planned for because of work but that’s ok. MGM Grand is there next year, right? It actually worked out because I ended up feeling really sick and slept from 6:30 Christmas Eve until 3 on Christmas Day. Sometimes your body just needs it. However, we were able to get last minute reservations at Ceres Bistro at The Beechwood Hotel in Worcester, Ma, was a really good meal actually. The staff was great, the food was great. I’ll definitely be going back again for brunch. I actually liked how the restaurant is curved like the hotel, so you have really nice views, especially in the summertime.
Seriously, Ke$ha I couldn’t agree with that statement more. It seems like every year since 2010 has just been a shitty year, one right after the other. Not even a break to give me a second to breathe! Granted, I’ve met some really great people and have had some great experiences in this time frame but not a stellar year that is like “Wow, you’ve made the right decisions!” Granted, there has been a lot of wrong decisions in there, I’m sure of it but I just have that luck where one wrong decision turns into a lifetime of bad decisions. I’m praying, hoping, needing, wanting for 2013 to justify all the shitty years prior.
I understand that life happens and those experiences make you a stronger person. What doesn’t kill you makes stronger, I mean if Kelly Clarkson is singing that tune then it’s obviously true…..*insert eyeroll* but no really, it’s true, right? I think that 2013 needs to be the year for me in a sense. Despite coming off as an extremely self involved person, which I’m actually not if people took the time to actually get to really know me, but then maybe that’s my fault because I don’t let people get to know me because I don’t have time for BULLSHIT. Although, bullshit seems to follow me around wherever I go. Maybe this is the year that I move out, move away and forget about this awful city. Well, it’s not awful, I just need a break from it. I need a new appreciation for other cities and then to come back to appreciate this city.
On a daily basis, I feel as though I’m becoming more and more of a person that I’m not. The only thing that really makes me happy is music and friends. Good music and good friends are all you can really ask for in life.
I wish all my friends nothing but happiness in 2013. 2012 was one of the shittiest years around and I wish so hard to forget it. As Danielle Staub says “Love and Light”
I couldn’t agree with that statement anymore. Style is really all about knowing your personality, your body and what works for you. If you know something doesn’t work for you, it’s about finding a way to make it work for you! Gathering your ideas on how to recreate something that gave you inspiration is vital to making yourself stylish and trendy, yet still be an individual and not looking as if you are a follower of the trend.
I find that it’s equally important to stand out in whatever city you live in. Yes, it’s easy to run off to another city and find a connection there and call it a day. What’s the challenge in that? Isn’t a bigger challenge to standout and create a buzz for your own style in the city that you live in at the moment? Why take the easy road and blend in when you can challenge yourself to standout and be heard in your city now? Well, that’s what Rachè Miller the owner of http://www.shopadrionnedanielle.com did.
I stumbled upon the site because of twitter but if you google you definitely see a lot of information about her. In fact, even Diamond from the now defunct Crime Mob was spotted wearing when one of her pieces. Realizing that she destined for fashion at the early age of 12, she was watching the older kids in her school set themselves apart from each other with their style. Grasping that concept she realized that she needed to set the trends.
Moving to the Nashville area from North Carolina was the first step that was to begin this evolution in style. What I really like about the site is that the pieces are unique and pieced together to show that individual’s personal sense of style. If you notice on the site there are pieces such as the studded wedge ankle boots…
I really think that this girl has a good thing going and with more and more pieces coming through, it’s pretty clear that she knows what she is doing. Definitely check out www.shopadrionnedanielle.com. Items do change quickly be sure to act fast. I took a look just a few minutes ago and there is a really cool “Brass Knuckle iPhone Case” just in time for a small holiday gift!!
I absolutely love shoes. They make you feel great. They can make or break a look. I own way more shoes than I probably should. I’m a hoarder of shoes, you could probably say. I love every shoe that I own….even if I haven’t worn some of them at all since purchasing.
I became obsessed with the hidden wedge sneaker look. I bought a pair of the Steve Madden’s just because one day. I actually wear them a lot. It was the best purchase ever. They give you height but you can’t tell it’s a heel. AMAAAAAZZZZZING!!!!!!!! However, I then saw the Guiseppe Zanotti and Isabel Marant versions and wished that I had saved for those instead. Then again “It’s Not About The Label,How You Wear It!”
I was on Barneys.com on Sunday morning and I think I was looking in the handbag section. There on the sidebar was a shoe and I thought I’ll take a gander at shoes. I’m one of those really fortunate boys that has a shoe size that translates well into a women’s size. So off I went to to look at shoes. There staring back at me in all of it’s FIERCENESS:
I actually am a big fan of shoes like this. They are grown up sneaks!! The really cool thing about this shoe is all the different ways that you are allowed to wear it.
For instance, you can wear it up high by unfolding the suede wrap around straps to create a really cool look with a pair of cigarette pants or leggings(for a girl, or a really fashionably daring gay man)
I really like the contrast of suede and leather along with distressed nature of the shoes soles.
I’m really just beyond obsessed with these shoes. I love sneakers and I think this is a really cool way of growing up from sneakers to SNEAKERS!
Pair this baby with a drop crotch pants and a cropped jacket….FIERCE!
Anyways, somehow the formatting got messed up. That’s annoying but these shoes I mean they are awesome. This brand is really spectacular. I’m able to see my personality shine through in these shoes when I look at them. That’s important when buying a shoe because it really completes the look. It almost even creates the look. I wish the brand much success and I’m sure she’ll have no problem finding that if she’s only 22 and receiving such a buzz!!!
Jean Cocteau has given me my mantra for the rest of 2012 and probably the rest of my life. The great thing about fashion is everything recycles itself at some point. Paris Fashion Week has been amazing to watch so far. Guy LaRoche, Balenciaga, and Thierry Mugler are giving me a new LIFE!! Words really can’t describe how amazing these collections are. One thing I’ve noticed with PFW is the strong, structured elements of the garments. The drapery is not without purpose on how the garment falls on the models, even some of the pieces that are unstructured still have some sort of structure. PFW is just pure amazement, raw talent by some of the most talented designers in the world and pure inspiration.
BALENCIAGA: For one moment, forget everything you “THINK”, you know about Balenciaga. Not being rude, just want you to look past the bags. From the innovative silhouettes, to the eye-catching shoes, futuristic designs, and unique prints that just all seem to flow together to make their collections amazing, Balenciaga is just that AMAZING!!!
Ghesquière usually goes for a more masculine approach, typically going for cuts that are broader and lines that are boxier. This season he actually really embraced femininity and gave us ruffles. While, I’m not a big fan of ruffles and pleats, this collection makes me want to scream “RUFFLES ARE A GIRLS BEST FRIEND!!!” However, I’ll abstain from that because I have a slightly monotone voice and my excitement still sounds monotone. 🙂
The collection didn’t shy away from an over abundance of high cut hemlines that gave us an array of legs, similar to what we saw at Armani. When watching the show, I was also reminded of the late 80s and early 90s with bare midriff exposing suits.
If you are used to the prints that Balenciaga tends to use this season seemed to lack those. There was a strong use of black & white for the season but used complimentary with neutral shades that infused to the tweed fabric of choice.High slits, exaggerated tops, later on the show, the more patterned and colorful side of The House of Balenciaga is shown. Enjoy the show:
Guy LaRoche, this collection is very similar in the appeal of Gucci’s 2013 collection. A little more on the conservative side of things but still very glamorous and sexy. It screams minimalist but still sleek, chic and FRENCH. Knee length skirts with high collars and colors such as greens and purples were what we were seeing. I still really like it, there were some pieces that were ultra sexy. This is where the quote comes in I think. Style isn’t something you go out and buy because the designer says so. Style is something that comes from within that really shows and expresses how you are feeling. These collections aren’t necessarily for you to buy it look for look, piece for piece down to every detail, it’s for you to be inspired and take something away.
One other thing that was really cool about the collections in general this season, the beauty aspect. Makeup was grungy, yet hair was reminiscent of a Veronica Lake era,but there was also a very 70s appeal to the hair that was classic Jerry Hall, Brooke Shields, Studio 54 chic.
I wish I could find a full link for you to enjoy the show but I wasn’t able. I hate watching the shows in parts and I wouldn’t want to inflict that on you.
Thierry Mugler: Welcome to the World of Mugler Handbags. We’ll get to that later. Nicola Formichetti is really hard at work, working on a way to put his vision into the brand. That’s the really tough part of going into a brand that is already known for a certain image, however, I really think he’s past the hit or miss phase with his collections. The one problem that I have with his pieces, how do you know if it’s a Gaga piece or not. Time will tell, right? The pieces in this collection are very wearable, structured pieces. There is an element to it that says “Rebel With A Reason”
Remember, style is a way of making your impression on the world. Get inspiration from what speaks to you. These are aspects of style that I love. It’s inspiration on all levels, even if you take away the hair and makeup, you’ve learned a little something. Enjoy!!!
