Twerkin For A Birkin: Favorite Songs of 2013

Disclaimer: Girls, however, you acquire your Birkin bags, I am not judging. I am applauding you for going out there and being proactive because they are a costly bag. Do what you gotta do.

2013 was probably an interesting year musically. Miley and her lickity split tongue accomplished what she set out to do, which was have everyone enamoured with her new choice of dance. Twerking otherwise known as Bounce.

I was supposed to end 2013 with a bang. I’m going to Los Angeles instead of the Middle East to hear one of my favorite Boston DJ’s, Nate Bluhm. 5 DJs. 3 Rooms. It would have been glorious but all the for the better because I didn’t like my outfit.

However, I want to share some of my favorite songs from 2013(the songs aren’t all from 2013, just songs that I may have discovered for the first time in 2013)

Kaytranada–Holy Hole Inna Donut

M.I.A.–Bring The Noize

Diplo–Express Yourself

Juicy J–Showout

Future–Honestly, any of his music is good because that autotuned voice just resonates in your mind

Drake–From Time

Big Freedia–Twerk Bounce Genre. It’s all good….but my favorite song is “Nasty” with Spank Rock

Brenmar–Temperature Rising

Salvia & Brenmar–Let Me Bang

Sage The Gemini–Gas Pedal(Justin Bieber Remix) and Panoramic

Cooly G–Dubplated

Iggy Azaela–Anything by her honestly is good

I have a lot more songs, but these are songs or artist that stood out in terms of creating a perfect dance environment.

Bend Ova and Twerk: Twerkin’ & Yiken…….

Disclaimer: I love to dance. I was twerkin’ before it became a phenomenon! I love it so much that Thursday after work, I twerked in front of The Taj while waiting for the light to change to Khia “My Neck My Back”

So I was at the bank today making a deposit and I walked into the Gap in Wellesley Square. However, I caught this girl on the bench out in front and her conversation seemed really intense. Maybe it was cause I had just woke up but I caught this part made me giggle….she said “She was doing it all wrong. She wasn’t even moving her body. She acts likes she can twerk but can’t. People are like Miley Cyrus can twerk but she can’t”  I wish I were joking but this really is what she said so I turned my head and smiled. She got blushed.

Twerkin– A dance in which movements consist of shaking hips, bounce booty up and down in a gyration causing it to bounce or wobble. Basically make your booty as sexualized as possible! To the right beat, I admit this is actually quite fun. Upside down against the wall. You can be as innovative as you want…..

Instead of study YIKE
Instead of study hall…you YIKE

Yiken- Is the creative Oakland area version of Twerkin! They make it more advanced because the partner your dancing with is behind you and what happens is they throw the rhythm off while you twerk. Making it impossible for you to catch the beat!

Honestly though, YIKEN is like beyond sexualized though. It really pushes the envelope. If you look at some of the YouTube videos, it’s like “Oh My God, I hope they’re being safe!” Makes you wonder where the parents are when they are recording this stuff because lord knows my mother would have known what I was trying to do before I pressed record!

Like I stated earlier, I love to dance but have missed every opportunity to dance my ass off(no pun intended) like I like to. Nobody seems to want to go dancing. The last time I remember going, we went “Controversy” at Machine in Boston. It was amazing. I entered the Twerk Contest in my studded wedge sneakers in skin-tight silver jeans! WERQ BETCH! There was a video of me somewhere in the contest.I couldn’t find the one on my Facebook from the contest but I found this one instead…..

This summer though I need to bring the YIKEN Movement to Boston. We would totally benefit from it…..

Yiken?Twerkin? What Do You Do It To: ‘memba you suppose to get RATCHET

Panoramic-Sage the Gemini (Pop and swerve your booty like your life depends on it)

Express Yourself-Diplo feat Nicky B (Twerk upside down if you dare)

Vibrate-Petey Pablo (Fast and with an attitude)

Higher Ground-TNGHT (Like you know have this in the bag)

Big Booty Judy-Shawnna (Make it roll and watch the hips go)

Shake That Ass-Mystikal (Like the song says and watch yourself)

Just Another Night Out With Dre
Sometimes You Twerk So Hard It Hurts The Next Day To Perform A  Walk of Shame

Legally Blonde

“And last week I saw Cameron Diaz at Fred Segal, and I talked her out of buying this truly heinous Angora sweater. Whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed” Elle Woods (Legally Blonde)

Never Good Enough

I watching Legally Blonde, absolutely love the movie. It’s a riot, she’s hilarious. Until this recent time in watching it, did I realize something important and how it pertained to my love life.

All of my friends know about the “Love of My Life”. It’s been an ongoing battle of back and forth. I’ve begun to write-off the prospect of actually getting that relationship back. I don’t want think that I should be strung along like a little but puppet. Tonight I realized that I’ll never be good enough in his eyes. Good enough to string a long…’s a good realization to come to though and maybe with that realization I can move on to….

On another lighter note, I went out with a few co-workers over the weekend. Went to the waterfront in Boston to start the night, Whiskey Priest where we were hit on by a few married men. Then to the South End and ended up at Machine Nightclub. In which every 3rd Saturday of the month, they have night called Controversy. Music was great, one of the DJ’s played one of my favorite songs of the moment “Higher Ground” by TNGHT. The music is a mix of everything great that I love dancing to at the moment. I even ended up on the stage several times and entered their “Twerk Contest”….I didn’t win but there’s always next month……cause i will be upside down against the wall!!!!!!!!!!!

Just Another Night Out With Dre

My co-workers and I started a challenge at work. To see who can do 100 push-ups in 10 minutes by the end of May.  What should be the prize be? I’m going to win. I’m too competitive not to win. Each week we increase the amount. Yesterday, I did 21. Next week, I’m going to do 30. I think I have this in the bag……
