I’m gonna come back and act as if I wasn’t on a hiatus for a really long time. However, I’m pretty sure “You Can’t Do That!” in life. Right?
My friend Carolyn Paine is a comedian, dancer, choreographer, writer, singer, radio host and CAT LOVER. Oh, did I mention that she’s entering the Women in Comedy Festival? She is and I was so honored that I was asked to participate. The theme for this year is “You Can’t Do That!”
Inspired by the political climate around her, Carolyn decided to take all of her talents, along with some talented friends to create an interesting “Stand Up For Your Rights!” through comedy. Adam Sarette and Christian Daniel Kiley helped with the writing and filming of this project. It’s catchy. It’s sassy. A whole lotta of fun to help with as well.
If you haven’t heard the début single “2 On” by Tinashe, you are definitely missing out! The video is just as good definitely showcasing her style influences i.e. Beyonce and Janet Jackson. DJ Mustard produced featuring Schoolboy Q, Tinashe’s début single is definitely bringing strong West Coast sound. Turn Up!
Typically, I’m not a fan of Gaga. I am not a Monster by any means. However, after talking with a client on Sunday morning about this song, I decided that I should take a listen.
Requirements for Music:
Maybe I was excited because I’m really excited for the Art Pop album because of the supposed feature with Beyonce, Azealia Banks and Rihanna but this song is actually good. I love the video. She truly is a remarkable performer, which I knew before but this video just kind of solidifies that.
By the way the girl is totally slaying with her almost normal new look. The hair is fantastic! I mean FANTASTIC. WERQ BITCH
Disclaimer: Mercedes Benzova is an alter-ego drag persona that I came up with many years ago. This was the last time she came out. Check her out
Once upon a time a few months ago, a good friend of mine, Catherine, came home from Paris for about a week in time. She wanted to film a fashion film,we enlisted the help of a good designer friend Rufus Dixon of Rufus Dixon Designs IV, Patricia, Matt and made a short fashion film. This is the Diamond Dunhill remix but I’m posting the link to the original which is Catherine’s version...
“BE QUIET, KENYA, BE QUIET! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? STOP IT! I HAVE NEVER IN MY LIFE YELLED AT A GIRL LIKE THIS. WHEN MY MOTHER YELLS LIKE THIS IT’S BECAUSE SHE LOVES ME. I WAS ROOTING FOR YOU, WE WERE ALL ROOTING FOR YOU. HOW DARE YOU? LEARN SOMETHING FROM THIS. WHEN YOU GO TO BED AT NIGHT, YOU LAY THERE AND YOU TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOURSELF, ‘CAUSE NOBODY’S GONNA TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOU. YOU ROLLIN’ YOUR EYES AND YOU ACTING LIKE THIS BECAUSE YOU’VE HEARD IT ALL BEFORE. YOU’VE HEARD IT ALL BEFORE, YOU DON’T KNOW WHERE THE HELL I COME FROM, YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I’VE BEEN THROUGH. BUT I’M NOT A VICTIM, I GROW FROM IT, AND I LEARN. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOURSELF.”
I’m so disturbed by this video. The song had potential as the cute 2013 anthem but no….she’s trying to be different and funny, Kenya Moore Miss USA 1992 decided to piss me off. This was just a waste of time. Tacky. Ratchet. All things wrong with people……..
I really enjoy good house/dance music. I had no idea that he has been around since 2009, probably due to the fact that Boston lacks amazing clubs or even lounges that would have music like this. Although, I would say that Bijou would probably be a place that would come to close to it…..
These are some of my favorites already…I hope you enjoy……
If you have any artist similar or in general that you think I might like I’m always open to new material………
I didn’t see the movie Garden State, primarily for the reason of my dislike for Zach Braff. However, I’ve heard this song “Let Go” by Frou Frou on many occasions. For some reason, on Tuesday night, I randomly heard it again. It caught my attention in a weird way, then last night when listening to the song, it just really took me by surprise in the most intense way. Have you ever had a song just do that to you? You don’t understand why but it just speaks to you on so many levels and you are ok with that?
That’s what this song did. I’m able to find emotion in music. I’m at that weird point in life at the moment where I’m going forward, yet I still feel far behind. I’m ready for that change but I’m scared to take it. I’m scared to just jump into it. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it “I hate change” but watching those around me go forward it makes me realize that I’ll never know unless I do it. It’s ok to be scared, that is one of the things that makes it fun. If you aren’t scared, nervous, or excited there’s no point in it. You won’t learn a lesson from it, am I right? It seems like I’m really leaving this retrograde state and growing up. Back on track, which is good. Leaving the old behind and going forward with the new. I think that’s what this song is really all about.
Now I kind of want to see Garden State, just to see if I envisioned this song correctly.
I’ve been very bad at my blog lately. I’m trying to find the inspiration but in the mean time, I decided to share with you one of my favorite Janet Jackson song’s off her debut album, the track is called “Say You Do” Reminds me of when music was innocent, listen to it and I know you’ll love it…..
This 21 year old rap diva from Harlem has captured my heart. I honestly forget how I stumbled upon her earlier this year….could have it been the song “L8R”? Where at 19 she was rapping about how great her genitals taste….oh wait…now I remember! A friend of mine posted the song “212” on his Facebook page. The lyrics “Ima ruin you CUNT” stood out to me.
In a short few months, I then quickly filled myself in on the Yung Rapunxel style. Let me tell you this girl can RAP n SING! Her style is something that is reminiscent of the 80s and 90s female emcees but with a modern twist. I enjoy all of her mix tapes. I wish her much success and can’t wait for her Interscope Records debut entitled “Broke with Expensive Taste”
Just a few songs from her that I think you might enjoy:
FUCK UP THE FUN
