Jeffrey Campbell: Popp Urban Outfitters Edition

The note inside the lid
The note inside the lid

Over the weekend while in Los Angeles, I was contemplating getting the Jeffrey Campbell’s that I mentioned in the last post. I couldn’t decide between the Urban Outfitters  version because their version is different from the Karmaloop version. This edition has “Love” & “Hate” on the left and right shoe. The other version is just the metal lines.

I believe I ordered them Saturday and splurged for the next day arrival.Well, I didn’t get home from L.A. until Monday and sure enough there were my shoes awaiting for me. Everything about this is interesting. The box is vibrant but the usage of color is simple. Inside the box there’s a note on lined paper. Cute.

The shoes are unique because they glow in the dark. They are all white. Black soles. Silver non-lace. It’s a curved metal band. There’s no ties at all. It’s tighter fit but I knew it might be. If I had gone with the Karmaloop, I could have ordered size 11 but Urban doesn’t have that. Anyways…….

Love. Hate.
Love. Hate.

I decided to take the shoe out of the box last night to try it on when I got home from the day. I stick my foot and sa I go to zip up. What happens? Tell me what happens? Yup….it ripped at the seam near the zipper. I had to double take to make sure that I wasn’t mistaken. WTF?! Jeffrey Campbell, we just got married last week and you want a divorce already?!?! I couldn’t believe it was happen. I thought I could get away with wearing. Being dramatic and upset, I called Urban’s customer care line as if my life was over. It isn’t ruined but damn sure my outfit for Friday night is ruined. I’ve seriously worn every shoe in my closet I think? I have one more option which would be these amazing Cole Haan’s that I haven’t actually worn yet but I don’t want those for Friday I want my Jeffrey’s!!!!

So anyways, Urban Outfitters is amazing. They were so helpful, we were able to get the new pair shipped off. Although, I assumed it was going to happen to both pairs and I noticed that they have another pair, “Krakle”, it’s not a high top like” Popp” which is actually better. They unfortunately couldn’t make the switch since they are two different items and I have a defective pair. Ugh. I just want my shoes for Friday night. Whatever, I’ll survive. If anybody has any tips or tricks on how I can wear it and make it okay, let me know because the shoes actually fit.

Overall, I love the shoe so far. I can’t wait to see it actually glow in the dark more. Unfortunately, I wish it were a bit sturdier to where something like this doesn’t happen. Krakle is cute too. If it didn’t say the same words, I’d probably entertain the idea of getting them as well. Oh well,I am just really thankful that the situation is being resolved.

Let’s Walk A Mile In Each Others’ Shoes

The famous Carrie Bradshaw line but my shoes are on the floor in my closet…

Who doesn’t love a good pair of shoes? I’m going to speak for everyone when I say that “Everybody loves shoes!!” To me shoes are an extension of the soul in a sense. You probably don’t realize how intimate shoes really are but think about it for a second.

Ready? Here are some reasons:

  • Shoes will do whatever we want them to do. We can dance, run, kick, strut down the street with confidence in our shoes. When we get tired of them….to the back of the closet they go.
  • A good pair of shoes that is properly fitting will last you a LIFETIME! The most loyal friend on earth we never have to worry about them not fitting us if we have a carb filled night.
  • Shoes define our personalities. Put on a pair of shoes and your stripped of all your other masks and left with your SHOES!
  • You can have as many or little as you want. You can’t really do that with relationships unless your kind of well….um(you thought it, I didn’t say it)
  • Love at first sight! Forever and always true love….Take good care of them and you’ll be obsessed for years to come. Put them in the closet for a few months or longer and pull them out of the box and say “Hell Yeah F*cking Right!”
  • The worst that is gonna happen is you might get a blister, run them down to the ground, or you fall in them and people laugh. A lot better than anyone else doing these things to you cause if someone gives you a blister “There’s an app for that!”
All Gold Er'Thang
All Gold Er’Thang

I was always obsessing over shoes I think but I didn’t realize it until I worked in the women’s shoe department of a clothing store. The countless pairs of shoes that women had to choose from. It’s unfair. Lucky for me that I am able to wear a women’s sneaker…..LUCKY FOR ME!!!! I loved helping women find shoes that fit their personality and I would give them an honest opinion just as I do when it comes to hair color.

Personally, I like sneakers or funky dress shoes. They define my personality, I could wear the simplest of things but the right shoe can totally change the appearance to make me complete! However, I do not use shoes as a method of protecting me from people. I think of my shoes as a connection to people.

Shoes. Shoes. Shoes. My God!
Shoes. Shoes. Shoes. My God!

What are some your favorite shoe styles? Do you have a particular brand that you absolutely love? I’d love to hear and maybe find a new brand for myself!

Brands A Make Me Dance:

CA by Cinzia AraiaCinzia Araia created this sportswear line that would act as  the sister to her namesake. Unisex shoes that have an edgy, modern yet wearable for the fashion forward person. Particularly The Rabbit which is my favorite of her shoes. I wrote a few posts about them here.

Jeffrey Campbell-Amazing shoes that really take femininity to the next level but with a grungy edge. Both men and womens shoes have this Courtney Love/David Bowie feel. I can’t wait to buy the Jeffrey Campbell Wordz!!!

Ralph Lauren-Comfortable shoes. Synonymous with luxury. Classic, elegant and modern for that New England Prep School student in us all.

Philipp Plein-Edgy. Sexy. Rocker. Chic. Glamorous are words that I would use to describe this bad boy of the design world. Take a look for yourself, you’ll fall in love!

Ultimate Goal:A Closet Full of Wedge Sneakers

How I feel
How I feel

Cleaning out my closet and looking through my stuff to get ready to give to donation centers.I actually never give clothes away,I just throw them away.I thought this time, I’m going to donate clothes. Which is a great idea and theory but it never ends up happening to plan because as soon I put something in a bag, I take it out and think, well I want this. I realize how many pairs of shoes or how much I need to go shopping(at least in my head that’s what I think)

So looking through my shoes, I realized that I will forever and always own just way too many shoes. However, in my closet I still don’t have those Cinzia Araia Rabbit sneakers that I desperately wanted. All that was in my closet that was a reminder of what could have been the most beautiful shoe union between a man and shoes was Jeffrey Campbell wedge sneakers that have spikes…and I got my mom a matching pair.

Although, I did notice while looking online to see if I could find a men’s version of Cinzia Araia’s, that the new wedge sneaker game for the fall 2013 season is beyond SICK! I mean from Jeffrey Campbell, Ruthie Davis, Marc Jacobs and Giuseppe Zanotti, the game this season is slaaaaaaying.

Hmm? What should I invest in next. Take a look and let me know what you think?

I will always love you Cinzia Araia……it just was not to meant to be

Wait….I Didn’t Tell You What Happened?…….

The Rabbit
The Rabbit

As you may remember, there is this shoe called “The Rabbit” by CA by Cinzia Araia that I am beyond obsessed with. The sneaker has these long suede or leather bands that allow the individual wearing the shoe to create a variety of looks to really showcase their own style and not that of just the shoe. They retail anywhere from $300-$400, more or less depending on when and where you buy them. I HAVE BEEN OBSESSED FOR QUITE SOMETIME, since I first heard of the shoes last year!

So one day back in February or maybe it was early March, I decided that I NEEDED THESE SHOES! I was going through a depressive moment and shopping a lot and shoes were what I needed to make it through the day. I ended up with an impressive pair of Jeffrey Campbell‘s that I can hardly walk in but that’s ok….they were a steal at $50!!!!

Anyways, I marched on down to Copley Place because I knew the one place in Boston that had them in stock was Barney’s New York!

Barneys New York
Barneys New York

Barney’s in Boston is the place to go to for hard to find desginers, emerging designers and just really interesting pieces that aren’t of the mainstream. Think outside the box a bit! I walked into the shoe department and knew exactly what it was I looking for. I was looking for shoe in either black or white. I didn’t see it right away, it’s tucked against the left wall towards the back and there it was CA by CINZIA ARAIA! STARING ME IN THE FACE IN ALL OF THE GLORY THAT I HAD DREAMED ABOUT for such a long time.

A sales associate came out, she had dreads and was really cool like in a Brooklyn sort of way. She wasn’t from Boston, either NYC or she was from the south but like Virginia south. She grabbed me the biggest size in the cranberry color, not the color I wanted but fine none the less. I proceeded to try the shoe on……”AAAAAAAAH” My heart sank………

The shoe was too tight!!!!! No i screamed in my head. This can’t be! Why me?  The shoe that I was basing my life around at that very particular moment didn’t fit me. I was devastated. My life had lost all meaning. “Well the shoes run very narrow. The way that it’s constructed, it will give a bit but not a lot. It’s an expensive sneaker to just wear once or twice and not be the right fit for you” In my head I immediately thought, SHUT UP! LET ME BUY THE SHOE! IT’S MY MONEY TO DO WHAT I WANT”

Not being able to justify the buy, I placed the shoes back in the box. Tears almost trickled down my face as I walked upstairs to maybe see if the men’s department had the full mens line. They didn’t. I walked out, probably the saddest I have ever been in my entire life. Life didn’t have any meaning at this point. Then I realized…..it’s just a fucking shoe. Get the fuck over it…….and then I remembered that I got the most amazing pair of Jeffrey Campbell’s for a steal!

Oh well there will always be another shoe!!!

I Don’t Do Fashion, I Am Fashion……

“What you wear is how you present yourself to the world, especially these days, when humans come into contacts so quick. Fashion is an instant language”-Miuccia Prada

To me one of the greatest aspects about fashion is footwear. I absolutely love shoes. I’ve had some really awesome shoes too! I actually enjoy sneakers more in all honesty, I find that with my height and personality I can dress a sneaker up or dress it down. They always give me a little flair and pizzaz to my otherwise monotone wardrobe. Lately, I’ve become obsessed with Cinzia Araia and even wrote about the brand for a marketing project for school…..however, there is very little information that can be  found!

It happened that I was  on the site www.luisaviaroma.com and decided to take a look at sneakers that is where I discovered Philipp Plein. German born, Swiss based Plein, has had this company that designs for both men and women for over 10 years.Surprising, exclusive, luxurious is the brand in which was created using high quality materials to create a feeling of Rock ‘n’ Roll and high-end luxury combined. A luxury splurge in fact it is with most sneakers starting at around $740 and up. These pieces are definitely going to bring the shock and awe factor when entering your credit card numbers.

Also designing clothing, last year he made headlines when famed transsexual model Lea T. opened and closed his women’s fashion show. In the headlines again recently after his recent show in Milan, in which models were toting around military guns and he opened with Ed Westwick from The CW‘s Gossip Girl!

Gienchi: The Statement Because It Is
Gienchi: The Statement Because It Is

As much as it looks like you could Do-It-Yourself, you wouldn’t be able to recreate it. Making a flashy, yet very chic appearance into the fashion forum Gienchi shoes have already made their debut in high-end magazines such s Vogue and have become the accessory to have among fashionistas and celebrities. Looking at these shoes you have to wonder, the person that could put these on and feel empowered.Almost all the shoes incorporate the usage of studs and if they are lacking that, they have pizazz with a great color! The Gienchi wearer is one that is unapologetic, bold, edgy and doesn’t do well without being the center of attention. Gienchi for the individual that is dedicated to preserving their flashy attitude and being really fabulous! “Girl, You Better Slay!”

The High Shield by Camilla Skovgaard
The High Shield by Camilla Skovgaard

Which brings us to Camilla Skovgaard, who designs impeccable women’s footwear to begin with but these sneakers are absolutely amazing. Futuristic yet minimal at the same time, this hot little ticket right here would probably be fierce with skin-tight cigarette pants or shorts with an oversized boyfriend sweater for a cool summer day.

I was actually browsing ln-cc.com and found this awesome pair of snake-skin Skovgaards for about $259 with the original price tag being $1259! What a great deal!

I think these would be great a shoe for next season as well. I love the shark-like effect  that Camilla created on the bottom of her pieces as well. It is probably extremely comfortable for walking as well. Girls, GET THIS SHOE!!! I just can’t stress it enough. Amazing!

I love all the concepts behind the shoes and the ones that I could see myself wearing would actually be the Skovgaard sneakers as well as the Gienchi. Those are up my alley and Gienchi just scream “LOOK AT ME!”

So That Means We Gotta Make It Work

Wrapped High Top Sneaker aka Rabbit
Wrapped High Top Sneaker aka Rabbit from CA by Cinzia

Everybody that knows me knows that I am a freak for shoes. I love shoes because of the way that can transform the outfit that a person is wearing and allow that user to stand out or blend into the crowd. I believe in standing out with my footwear and basing my outfits off my footwear. It’s easier than having to plan the outfit and then having to worry about the shoes. Start from the bottom up, am I right?

Anyways, in a earlier blog I had written about this interesting luxurious but casual sneaker that I saw on Barneys.com . To recap what the details that were mentioned, the parent brand is Cinzia Araia and this was her offshoot brand CA by Cinzia Araia. Which is the more street wear inspired footwear line and at a bit lower of a prince point then the parent Cinzia Araia. This shoe is just amazing and in doing research for my marketing class about the brand, I learned a lot about the shoe and the concept and not just adding this too my closet.

Cinzia Araia started in 2010 and in 2011 introduced us to CA by Cinzia Araia. With this new label underneath her still new label, she developed the Wrapped High Top Sneaker.

Wrapped High Top Sneaker in Black
Wrapped High Top Sneaker in Black

The really amazing thing that keeps drawing me back to these shoes are how versatile they are. You can always be funky fresh dressed ready to party or you can wear it a little more rock star subtle. Perfect for the office fashionista who is afraid to really be edgy but still right for the mom picking up her kids from school. By the way, did I mention that they are actually unisex so for the metrosexual who is feeling comfortable in his sexuality he can purchase a pair and look ever so good! This particular style runs from about $315-$345 depending on what site you buy from.

So the reason the particular style of sneakers is also known as The Rabbit is because of the long laces that are inspired by the ears of a rabbit. The laces are long because it gives the wearer the ability to create a few different looks. Another amazing thing was that Cinzia had her shoes internationally patented so that particular model type can become synonymous with her brand as her signature piece. Smart thinking from a wise gal!

I mentioned a little earlier about the cost of the shoes, however, Yoox.com has other CA by Cinzia shoes on their website. Worth a shot to see if you like something else. They have a pair of The Rabbits from the fall in a size 10 for about $98!!! WHAT A STEAL!!!

I really cannot wait to search a little more and find a pair. I say search a little more because I’m terribly indecisive when it comes to things like that and have to analyze every little detail. Goodness Gracious Golly Me, What Am I Going To Do With Myself?”

Silver White Winters That Melt Into Spring……

Holiday Parties
All Eyez On Us We Took The Night

Tis the season to get out and enjoy that holiday party honey! I truly must say the holidays are a great time of year when you can get together and enjoy it with friends as well as family. Here’s a quote for you: “Ain’t No Party Like  A Holiday Party Cause A Holiday Party Don’t Stop!”

Every year I dread the holiday parties, I dread the constant back and forth and let’s be cheerful and merry. I just don’t want to go, BLECH. I had fun at last years holiday party and maybe because I noticed a lot of growth in myself this year but this year was even more fun! The night before I went to a holiday party which was just as crazy, arguing with a drag queen, an Irish girl, and some other chick, turns out that was rather interesting. Naturally, I won the music choice.

So the holiday party was on the Odyssey Boat Cruises, which I’ve taken before in the past and it was fun. The music eh but it’s really hard to keep me actually happy to music because I find that a lot of DJs’s are inconsistent. Like my IPOD makes me happy because I choose the music but regardless this isn’t about the music.

Naturally, of course, we all wanted to go out dancing afterwards. Well, if you know me, you know that any chance I get I can I would love to make an outfit change of some sorts. Well not tonight, the only thing I wanted to change my shoes because everything else was perfect from the salon holiday party but for the nightclub, had to change shoes. Say Hello To My Friend:

Studdin' On 'Em
Studdin’ On ‘Em

I saw these shoes and said “Oh My God!” tried them on and they were a little tight but that’s ok….you can stretch a shoe, right? They are pretty fierce though I must say. It’s a high maintenance shoe but at the same time it’s simple.

If there is one trend that everyone should fall into in my honest opinion is the studded trend. So amazing all the things that you can do with them. There’s a brand that I follow based out of NYC called “Stud Muffin” it’s really amazing, how they take studs and make even sweatpants look good!!

Then again time to get back to the story at hand which is…that I love this time of year. It’s a time to be with those that you love, those that you hate and share and make memories. There is always too little time and too many parties to go to but that’s the fabulousness of it all. It’s like summer in New England, ya know.

Christmas is here sooner than we are going to realize. Hope you all have a safe and happy rest of your holiday season.
