TBT: Glitter Everywhere

mariah carey, glitter, nick cannon, dem babies, jermaine dupri,
I’ve never seen this movie but I still have no idea what it is about

Glitter, does anybody know why it is exist? A lot of people wish that movie and actually glitter would just disappear. I know I’m a little late on the trend by like a few years but it’s kind of okay because I never tried it to begin with. Glitter, you either love it or you send it to your mortal enemies as like a gag gift. I choose productivity and cuteness.

I like to have a little fun with my makeup when I wear it.  I thought by doing a glitter beard I could over emphasize the brightness in the apple of my cheek. Eh, doesn’t work that way. I also was under the impression that it wouldn’t take long. I was wrong. The earlier post was the day that I attempted glitter brows and then decided I wanted to try a glitter beard because why the hell not?!

How To Achieve Glitter Facial Hair:

1.  First you should buy the color glitter you want. You can never have too much.

2. You’re gonna need eyelash adhesive. I like the Ardell. It’s clear and smells a little like acetone. Kind of stings if you apply after you freshly shaved. BE A MAN AND TAKE IT!

3. THE BEARD: To achieve the depth of the silver in the glitter and I’m sure this would apply to any color, use a water soluble eye shadow or cream makeup your first layer before applying adhesive. Then sprinkle glitter in bowl while singing the soundtrack to Mariah Carey’s “Glitter” #PoorMariah

4. In small sections, dip your paintbrush, I use a 1 inch brush in the bowl, and bring the brush to your face. Press and dip. Press and dip. Moving along section by section moving along the outline of how your beard should look. I did one layer but I didn’t account for actually having to go out into the world and live my day. Probably good to use as much glitter as possible.

5. BROWS: I take one of those tacky little eyeshadow applicator, and squeeze a little adhesive on my brow and swipe! It’s covered in adhesive. WARNING: CLOSE THE EYE THAT YOU ARE APPLYING GLITTER ABOVE. THE OPPOSITE EYE SHOULD BE OPEN. WHEN SATISFIED. REPEAT ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE. I feel as though I shouldn’t have to place a warning but people like to play dumb. I then take the applicator and into the bowl of glitter and press and dab. Press and dab. Press and dab. You should only need one layer for the eyebrows. An eye full of glitter sounds like a scratched cornea.

6. Spray it down with some Aquanet. Make sure it’s not windy or rainy and go about your day. “Give them hoes what they came to see.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

“You Can’t Do That!”

I’m gonna come back and act as if I wasn’t on a hiatus for a really long time. However, I’m pretty sure “You Can’t Do That!” in life. Right?

My friend Carolyn Paine is a comedian, dancer, choreographer, writer, singer, radio host and CAT LOVER. Oh, did I mention that she’s entering the Women in Comedy Festival? She is and I was so honored that I was asked to participate. The theme for this year is “You Can’t Do That!”

Inspired by the political climate around her, Carolyn decided to take all of her talents, along with some talented friends to create an interesting “Stand Up For Your Rights!” through comedy. Adam Sarette and Christian Daniel Kiley helped with the writing and filming of this project. It’s catchy. It’s sassy. A whole lotta of fun to help with as well.

Good luck Carolyn!!!

One Last Pair

“One last pair of shoes.”

The last thing I need is another pair of shoes. I don’t. It’s absurd. However, this pair of shoes is going to symbolize something meaningful. These shoes are going will be the beginning of a new chapter. I’ll actually probably never wear them because of how much they will mean to me.

I’ve often avoided situations where I thought I would fail. An easy wait to protect yourself from the pain that comes with it. I never really felt mediocre until recently. Wondering where this was coming from, I took a hard look at certain things and realized.

You never know if you’re making the right decision. It could be a decision you regret. You never know if it’s the right time. Timing isn’t always key. We all have fears that we have to conquer and it just becomes harder as you get older.

These were the last shoes I decided on purchasing for awhile
These were the last shoes I decided on purchasing for a while

Am I making the best decision? Am I going to be happy? Is it going to be hard? Is it the right time? Who the hell knows because I sure don’t. All I really know is that I’ll have regrets. Regrets eat you alive more than any other feeling.

Don’t Have Regrets.

Turning 30

growing up, mature, old, 30
Truth

I know I’ve only been 30 for about 17 days, 10 hours and 45 minutes, however, I think that gives me a little authority on the subject.

Everybody tells you that it isn’t bad turning 30. In fact, they go one step further and say it’s like any other birthday. That’s a boldface lie. It’s slightly different because now you happen your an official adult. No more milestone birthdays to make transition through decades easier. Ethan Hawke, Growing up, old, 30

All jokes aside though turning 30 wasn’t as bad as I had envisioned. It was totally fine. If your definition is crying at weird moments throughout the weekend then it was totally fine. Not only did I cry during “Sing Street”, I cried at dinner, I cried after dinner before bed, I cried the following morning and I’m sure I cried some more. I’m placing blame on the new moon and Saturn’s retrograde.

New Lessons: Things I Learned In My 20s

  1. It’s going to hurt. You will cry. It’s an excuse to buy shoes. Don’t let heartbreak harden your heart. Just because you like that person today, doesn’t mean you will in a few months. Have fun but try with caution. If you happen to find your soul mate, good for you. Every failed relationship is a way to look at yourself and see what it is you want and how to go about seeking it in positive ways.

  2. You have to fail just once at something. If you fail, “Dust yourself off and try again.” -Aaliyah. Failure is one of the greatest teachers we can learn from. I’ve had my share of failures and it took a long time to finally come to a place where I’m okay with them. Without those failures, I don’t think I’d appreciate the lessons I’ve learned in the past few years. Check your ego at the door. patrick dempsey, can't buy me love, amanda petersen, 80s, movies, love, paula abdul
  3. The family you choose is a wonderful thing. People come into your life at particular moment, sometimes they leave at particular moments. As you grow older, you want people in your group that are supportive, have similar ideals as yourself. You don’t have to be friends with everyone. It’s not satisfying. Some of these friends, you’ve shared tough and happy times with. Don’t take them for granted.
  4. Time waits for no one. It’s precious. Learn it. Live it. Love it. No, I mean that. If people want to throw their bad energy into the harmony your trying to create, it’s really okay to walk away from those situations. You are in charge of your life and happiness. Your boss was fine before your arrival and he’ll be fine after your departure. However, if it comes to friendships, you should grow a set of balls and learn to talk about the issues before throwing away friendships. Communicate before you eradicate.

    Really though?
  5. You start to appreciate yourself more than you thought you did. Spending time alone doesn’t bother you as much. Learning new hobbies actually seems like a fun idea. In an ideal world, the more we knew who we are and the more we love ourselves, the more you start to live life.
Jasmine guy, school daze, spike lee, fingers snapping, 30s, growing oldI know myself!
  6. You never stop learning. People are always evolving. You come to a point where you realize, nobody really knows how to do this called “Adulting.” It’s just everybody trying to find their own path and dealing with the bumps along the way.
Winona Ryder, Christian Slater, heathers, 80s, growing up, 30
    This is life.

In essence, it’s not bad turning 30. A little scary because no two paths are alike. Keep making new mistakes, living when you can, creating memories and you’ll move forward.

Nothing a sheet mask and a glass of wine can’t fix, right?

Sheet Masks

Sheet masks can be used anywhere without interrupting daily life
Use them anywhere, anytime without interruption of daily life

Sheet masks have always been one of my favorite obsessions. Except I never really paid attention to the purpose except that it was just another thing to buy. One of the staples of Korean skin care is finding its way stateside. A thin cotton sheet is doused  in a liquid that will brighten, hydrate and even hide those fine lines! If your skeptic, it’s understandable but if you’ve had a facial, there’s a chance they used a sheet masks on you.

Add Sheet Masks To Your Regimen: DON’T THROW AWAY YOUR MASKS! These masks are an addition to your regimen. The liquid that the sheet is packaged in is a serum formula which is giving your skin nutrients. It’s not going to deep cleanse or exfoliate your skin. I use them on days that I’m feeling dry or my skin isn’t looking it’s best.

Not A Replacement: Yes, it’s a serum based formula. No, you cannot throw out your daily serum in lieu of this. While the temptation to use them everyday with different price points, it’s just a bit excessive. The effects only last for a day, so continuing using the serum that works for you.

Is My Face Too Big?: One size never fits all. EVER! As you know, there are countless face sizes and shapes but only size masks. Applying them is kind of annoying. Laying down works best, working your way up from the bottom to the top. Smoothing it out as you go along.

Use Them Anywhere: Open the package, apply, wait 20-30 minutes and throw it away. It’s pretty simple. I use mine a lot on the train or on my way to work. You only have so much time in a day, so why not spending it wisely.

Goodbye 2015

The best way to describe 2015 is with the quote “Everything happens for a reason.” We don’t always know what those reasons are, why they are happening and quite frankly, I don’t think we are supposed to know.

I’m so thankful for all that have believed in me this yearn and pushed me to become a better person. I’m more than ready for 2016 to begin and excited for all that will happen throughout the year. Excited for a new year to get closer to new goals and complete old goals.

London 2015

“There is nowhere else like London. Nothing at all, anywhere.” – Vivienne Westwood

I completely agree with that statement. If you haven’t been, it’s definitely a place to put on the list of places to visit. I was extremely fortunate and am forever grateful for the chance to have gone recently to London and get a taste of what this amazing city has to offer!

You could say that I’m difficult when it comes to food. Very difficult. However, being in a new country it really was exciting to try new culinary dishes that I might not try on my own. You know what? I actually enjoyed it too!

It was really difficult to get back on the plane to come back home but you honestly know where life is going to take you….so until next time London!

HMBalmaination: November 5th

Balmain for H&M
#HMBalmaination

Designer collaborations and H&M are nothing new. Versace, Karl Lagerfeld, Lanvin and so many more have participated. One of the highly anticipated collections of the year is about 21 days away. If you’re a fan of Balmain, November 5th, Oliver Rousteing is making it just a bit more affordable for you to get your Balmain fix!

I have always loved Balmain. Decadent embroidered blazers, skin-tight tailoring and dresses adorned with pearl embellishments Balmain doesn’t skimp when it comes to the “WOW” factor.

However, when I look at the collection everything screams Kim Kardashian-West. It was really hard to look at the collection and say to myself “That’s fierce!” or “OMG! I need this!” In all actuality the only thing that really is appealing is the Balmain logo t-shirts.

Personally, I was really excited when I learned about it. After seeing the look book, I just don’t know what I think about it anymore. I’m a bit less than impressed but maybe in person it will have a different effect on me!!!
